What is sensex and nifty?

Sensex and Nifty are the top stock market indices in India, tracking the performance of major companies.

Sensex and Nifty are the two main stock market indices in India. They track the overall performance of the market, giving us a quick look at how the economy is doing.

  • Sensex: Short for the Sensitive Index, this tracks the top 30 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). It’s been around since 1986 and is often used as a barometer of India’s economic health. If the Sensex is going up, it usually means most of these 30 companies are doing well, and the overall market sentiment is positive.

  • Nifty: This is short for the National Fifty and tracks the top 50 companies listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). It started in 1996 and gives a broader picture of the market compared to the Sensex.

Both indices help investors gauge market trends and make informed investment decisions.
